Fasting on Radha Ashtami is a blessed and auspicious tradition. There are different methods of observing the fast. Some devotees observe a Nirjala fast, which means abstaining from both food and water. Others observe a Phalahari fast by consuming fruits and milk-based products, while some devotees take a simple meal after performing the puja in the evening.

The main purpose of fasting is to purify the mind and soul. By controlling the senses and material desires, one can develop stronger devotion to Shri Radha Krishna.

Observing the fast with a pure heart is most important, as fasting should never be forced. Devotees are advised to observe it according to their health and strength. During the vrat, avoid speaking harshly, consuming tamasic food, drinking alcohol, or smoking in order to maintain the purity and spiritual merit of this sacred observance.
